Ms. Nisha Persad was appointed as the third Chairperson of the Fair Trading Commission by Her Excellency Christine Kangaloo, the President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago on April 8, 2026.
An established Attorney-at-Law with over 25 years of experience, Ms. Persad began her legal career in December 2000 and has progressed from strength to strength since then, eventually establishing her own practice and later founding her firm. She is known for her commitment to excellence, her strong work ethic, and her dedication to maintaining the highest standards of integrity and professionalism.
Ms. Persad received her secondary education at St. Joseph’s Convent, St. Joseph. She thereafter completed her LL.B (Hons) through the University of London External Programme at the School of Accounting and Management in St. Augustine, Trinidad. Following the completion of her degree, she lectured various law courses for one year at both the School of Accounting and Management and ROYTEC.
She subsequently obtained her Legal Education Certificate from the Hugh Wooding Law School and was called to the Bar in October 2000. Ms. Persad then began her legal career as an Associate at the law firm of Odai N.S. Ramischand & Co., where she gained valuable experience in civil litigation. After three (3) years, she established her own practice in the latter part of 2003 and currently leads the firm N.K. Persad & Co. Her areas of expertise include civil litigation, including but not limited to running down actions, company and commercial law, debt collection and enforcement proceedings, land law and conveyancing, family law, contentious and non-contentious probate matters, industrial and employment law and insurance law. She also maintains a limited criminal practice, handling minor criminal matters.
In addition to her role with the Fair Trading Commission, Ms. Persad currently serves as Chairperson of the Regulated Industries Commission, further reflecting her leadership and experience.
